RESUMO

Considera-se e discute-se neste artigo a necessidade de informação estatística sobre agricultura, baseada em levantamentos científicos de dados, nos primeiros anos do próximo século. Para atender às necessidades imperiosas de informação estatística a ser utilizada como recurso tecnológico (e mesmo como insumo) no agronegócio, propõe-se um sistema estatístico a ser posto em prática no Estado de São Paulo. Apresentam-se, também, a evolução histórica das estatísticas agrícolas nesse Estado e um plano amostral geral para o sistema em questão.

AGRICULTURAL STATISTICS FOR THE 21th CENTURY

SUMMARY

The need of statistical information on agriculture in the first years of the new century, based on scientific data surveys, is considered and discussed. In order to meet the pressing need for statistical information as a technological device - or even as an in-put - to be used in agribusiness, a statistical system to be carried out in the State of São Paulo, Brazil is proposed. A historical overview of the agricultural statistics in this State and a general sampling design for the system at issue are also presented.
