Congresso: IV International Conference on agri-food chain/networks economics and management

The opening of the Brazilian market and economy stabilization brought big changes in the food
distribution in Brazil. One of the sectors affected was the wholesaling of agriculture products in São Paulo. The objective in this study was to verify if the offering of services were related to a better performance of the firms in this sector. The services considered pertinent to this sector were surveyed and descriptive statistics and Spearman correlation analysis were performed, using the SAS 8.02 software from SAS Institute. The firms surveyed were on the cadastre used to research the daily prices of agriculture products in the wholesaling market in São Paulo, by IEA- Institute of Agricultural Economics of the Agricultural and Supplying Secretary of São Paulo State Government. The study of the relationship between services and satisfaction with financial performance showed that the variables offering several brands of a product, sales promotion, time of payment, price allowance, use of advertising, sales through internet and grains improvement (this variable, negatively) were correlated to cash flow, return on shareholder’s capital and gross profit margin.
